Reflexology

The practice of reflexology is known to be over 4000 years old.  The earliest records and documentation have been found in picture form on the walls of the tomb belonging to Ankhmahor, a highly respected physician and influential official, second only to the King, and they depict medical practitioners treating patients’ hands and feet.

Reflexology was also practiced in ancient India and it is believed that the Buddhist Monks who travelled to China, took with them the techniques and practice of reflexology.  Some time later they travelled to Japan, spreading their teaching.  Before this the Chinese had been using acupuncture for healing and by 2500 BC, had divided the body into longitudinal meridians which they said constituted the body’s energy system.  They believed that pain or illness was caused when one

or more of these meridians were blocked, disrupting the body’s natural flow

of energy and creating an imbalance.

Reflexology is an ancient, natural and holistic therapy providing a very relaxing and pleasant experience.  It is based on the principle that the body is mirrored by the feet and hands and by stimulating specific reflex points on the feet, activates the subtle flow of energy to corresponding parts of the body.  This encourages the natural internal healing mechanisms to revitalize the body by improving nerve function and blood supply, promoting balance and harmony within.
