The first documented descriptions of massage date back to about 3000BC and were discovered
in China. The traditional Chinese medicine is based on the principle that every illness, ailment or discomfort in the body is due to an imbalance of ‘Qi’.
Egyptian tomb paintings show people being massaged and in eastern cultures massage
has been practised continually since ancient time.
The Cherokee and Navajo Indians also used heat and herbal massage to treat many problems. They were also among many tribes who rubbed their warriors before and after they returned.
Therapeutic massage involves the manipulation of the soft tissue structures of the body to alleviate pain, discomfort, muscle spasm and stress and to promote health and well-being.
Massage therapy improves functioning of the circulatory, lymphatic, muscular, skeletal and nervous systems and may
improve the rate that the body recovers from injury and illness.
Massage involves holding, causing movement of soft tissue and/or applying pressure to the body. Massage can be adapted
to each clients’ needs and whilst a gentle massage promotes relaxation and wellness, a deep tissue massage can ease
muscular tension and discomfort.
